Thinking About Owning a Gun? Here's Where To Start

Posted by Justin on

These days, more and more Americans are thinking of arming themselves, and we can’t blame them.

Increased civil unrest aside, it’s always a great idea to have at least one self-defense firearm at home for worst-case scenarios.

Let’s break down what you should think about before arming yourself:

4. Look Up Your State’s Firearm Laws

Before you do anything else, be sure to research the unique state laws that might apply to your circumstances.

While guns are still legal across the United States, different states will have different restrictions based on the types of firearms you can use, how you can carry those firearms, and whether or not they allow concealed carry permits.

For most people looking for self-defense, a concealed carry permit is just the ticket.

Most states allow these permits, but their requirements might be different and more or less restrictive. This is why research is key.

3. Research and Choose a Weapon That’s Right for You

Next, keep up the research: But pivot to look at different firearms, to pick the one that works for your needs.

Again, this will be impacted by your state’s unique restrictions on firearm ownership.

Some states will allow you to buy shotguns or rifles, while others might limit you to pistols.

The good news is that pistols are usually fine for self-defense (there are only a few niche cases where you might need a shotgun or rifle).

Pistols can vary dramatically in both size and in type. Some pistols are larger and have more stopping power, while others are smaller and are more suitable for concealed carry pistols or for smaller folks, like many women.

The point is this: Any old pistol won’t do.

You need to get a pistol that perfectly fits your capabilities and works well for your situation.

2. Consider Holsters and Accessories

You should also look into various holsters and accessories, especially if you’re after a firearm for self-defense purposes and need a great concealed carry holster.

Certain holsters can be more or less comfortable, often depending on the fabric or other material they’re made from.

In addition to holsters, look into other accessories that you can place on your weapon, like optics and sights or special magazines.

Accessories can really make a pistol your own, and help you to maximize your accuracy both on the range and in any self-defense situation.

It's wise to look into a gun safe for storing your weapon at home. This is especially important if you have kids, as you don’t want them to get their hands on a loaded weapon.

1. Practice, Practice, Practice!

Lastly, once you get your firearm, you must practice with it frequently.

Get paid lessons from an experienced instructor if you can (or have someone in your family teach you).

Gun safety is the responsibility of every adult who owns a firearm, and it’s the best way to show liberal Democrats that guns can and are safe when used by responsible individuals.

In a time when the right to bear arms is under a full-on assault from the radical left, the CCP, and the incoming Marxist administration, the moment to exercise your 2nd Amendment is now.

It is legal to purchase firearms and ammunition for the time being, but the future of this right is in jeopardy.

I leave you with this: Figure out which firearm you want to purchase. Then stock up on as much ammunition as you can. These days, it’s much easier to get your hands on 1 gun than 1,000 bullets.

Hold the line, stay strong, and stick together.

Thank you for reading, stay strong patriots.
